Resting and recovering

Not much to report today. A lot of rest. A lot of pain. Sitting up this morning, and possibly walking this aftenoon. My guess is that walking will wait until tomorrow.

  1. Sitting is a massive accomplishment less than 24 hours after your surgery! Congratulations. Your walking will come slowly but will happen and you will be so proud with each step.

Dr. Rusk (who founded WRF and is seen as the "father of modern rehab") is one of the first docs to get people up and moving as soon after surgery as possible and that's when they started to see faster and stronger recoveries in patients. Every step will mean that you are getting closer to feeling better and doing things that you love to do!!

    Go Pattie :)

Mary Beth tried to post but couldn't figure it out. She is thinking of you.

    Lots of love,

    Heather

  2. Pattie - I know this is a hard day but know you are the quarterback on the team, Willie is your co-team leader. The kids are on the playing field and we are the cheering squad. Look at this as a superbowl game - it is difficult but you are heading toward the goal. There are lots of opposing team members (pain, desire to just stay down, just sleep) but you hang in there and stay in the game. Yea Pattie! Yea team (Willie, Peter and Kurt, Barb, Ethan and Megan, and Heather, Spencer, Delia, Hallie,

  3. DITTO!! Keep those super plays going! Those first steps today were just like your first touchdown!! I didn't really think of you as a football player--but I can definitely see your walking today equal to a 100 yard dash!! Keep on walking. Willis might even get you some boots and you can keep up with "These Boots Are Made for Walkin'"

Don't be afraid to hit the pain pump--I understand it is easier to control that way instead of waiting until you are really hurting. Take some good naps while you can.

You continue to be in our prayers.
    We love you,
    Russell & Gloria
